10 Fashion Documentaries to catch up on when you have nothing else to do

We’re currently living very difficult times, and as suggested, most of us are home trying to keep ourselves and our loved ones safe from COVID-19. 

As for me, I caught up on all the cleaning and reading one can do before imploding. While I find something else to do, I’m planning on watching all of the fashion repertory over at the streaming services I pay for. Some of them have been sitting on my “watch-list” and I’ve been neglecting since the holidays ended. In a desperate cry for things to do, I put together a list of the Fashion Documentaries that are already out of my watch-list and I believe you too, should take them out of their own quarantine. 


These are all the fashion documentaries you should take out of you watch-list while you’re looking for something to do:





FRANCA SOZZANI - Chaos & Creation (Netflix)

      A visual biography of Vogue Italy’s most     controversial editor in chief from her son’s eyes. Francesco Carrozzini, director and son to Franca, shares his mother’s story, telling the world the good, the bad and the chaotic. Vogue Italy’s covers while Franca was editor in chief were hated by many, but understood by those who can see fashion in a political light.








MCQUEEN (Prime Video)

Lee Alexander McQueen’s story from his loved one’s point of view. Reviewing the legacy of the British fashion icon, from his proudest moments to moments before his death. His story-telling through fabrics and designs, his rise to fame and his irreverent way to place himself amongst the very best as the Creative Director of the house of Givenchy. 








JEREMY SCOTT: THE PEOPLE’S DESIGNER (Netflix)

One of modern fashion’s most criticized designers, Jeremy Scotts tell-all documentary where his ability to mix pop-culture and fashion is explained. From the beginning of his career in Pratt Institute, to Paris to the moment he became Moschino’s Creative Director. 










THE TRUE COST (Prime Video)

Andrew Morgan’s film and research of the fashion world. Describing the true cost of the fashion industry today. Describing in detail the working conditions of workers in developing counties and the low-wages they are paid to make clothing accessible for first-world countries.








FASHION VICTIM: THE LAST OF THE GUCCIS (Prime Video)

From the beginning of the Gucci Company to the acquisition of the brand by Arab owners, this fashion documentary delves inside the Gucci empire, and explains the fall of The Last Gucci, Maurizio Gucci. 








FASHION AT WAR: CRAFTING THE NAZI BRAND (Prime Video)

This fashion documentary delves into the preparation of the Nazi brand, mostly made a reality by Hugo Boss who participated in crafting military uniforms for the Nazi party.








THE SEPTEMBER ISSUE (Prime Video)

Anna Wintour’s preparation for Vogue’s 2007 fall issue is captured in this evergreen documentary. All the behind-the-scenes and not-pretty moments of the publishing industry  are revealed in this how-to documentary of fashion’s most important publication.






MARC JACOBS & LOUIS VUITTON (prime video)

Marc Jacobs double live while being the Creative Director of Louis Vuitton and his eponymous brand can seem very glamorous, but in this film the costumer sees a completely different point of view. In this documentary the hectic and the behind-the-scenes are crucial to understand how magic happens behind closed doors. Two labels, two teams, one creative director: the great Marc Jacobs.










HOUSE OF Z (Online)

The story of Zac Posen’s designs and stage personality and how it caused the gifted designers fall. Not all is bad in this documentary, this is the story of the rise, the fall and the comeback of a fashion genius.











CHIARA FERRAGNI: UNPOSTED (Prime Video)

The first fashion influencer in the world reveals her beginning and her thoughts on the 
ever-growing digital influencer community through this documentary. The glamorous façade and the girl behind the phone, Chiara Ferragni.









This list has helped me through hard-times, breakups and makeups in the past. I believe it can help again, specially if we’re gonna be at home looking for things to do.
